College tuition can go beyond $100,000. One more big problem for students is the time commitment. The four years invested in college can be used to look and land a job in order to pay for the bills is just too long thus compelling a good number of students to look for alternatives or skip college in the end. Another large issue with college is that you learn out of a school room, rather than a real audio studio, meaning you never get to practice using the vital technology that bosses want you to know before they hire you.

Students going through the mentor/apprentice program get matched with someone who is already working in the recording industry. Getting an audio engineering degree seems like a great idea, but there are a lot of negatives. At present, students have more than one option when it comes to attaining a higher level of education.
